The Valley Street Campus began in 1960 as Gadsden Vocational Trade School, a private institution dedicated to providing vocational training for African Americans.
In 1972, it became Gadsden State Technical Institute. Then in 1985, it joined Gadsden State Community College through a historic merger.
In 1997, the campus received HBCU designation by the U.S. Department of Education, and in 1998, the campus began participating in the Department’s Title III Program.
As part of Gadsden State’s Centennial Campaign, we celebrate this enduring legacy of education, inclusion, and community. We can’t wait to celebrate this milestone with you!
