Gadsden, AL, July 3, 2025— Jackie Harris, a licensed practical nurse at Gadsden Regional Medical Center for over 36 years, has received a national 2025 Nursing Excellence Award.
Harris is one of ten national winners selected across all hospitals affiliated with Community Health Systems, one of the nation’s leading healthcare providers. Developing and operating healthcare delivery systems in 36 distinct markets across 14 states, the organization’s affiliates include Gadsden Regional Medical Center and 69 other hospitals.
Harris was surprised with a recognition from hospital leadership along with her co-workers in the Women & Children’s unit where she was presented with the award.
"Jackie’s dedication to our patients and her unwavering commitment to excellence in nursing truly set her apart," said Michael Hall, CEO of Gadsden Regional Medical Center. "She represents the very best of our profession, and we are incredibly proud to have her as part of our team. This recognition is a testament to the outstanding care she provides every day."
The Nursing Excellence Award program was created in 2020 with the celebration of the “Year of the Nurse” as a means to recognize the tremendous effort and sacrifice made by nurses during the COVID pandemic. This is the fifth occasion for the peer-nominated award recognizing the vital work nurses play in the collective purpose to help people get well and live healthier. Characteristics synonymous with nursing excellence include outstanding care, compassion, service and innovation, and reflect the efforts of someone who is a demonstrated team player and/or mentor to others, is a leader in times of crises, and who regularly promotes health in the community.
Harris expressed both surprise and gratitude upon learning of the award. “I was completely shocked when I found out,” she said. “To be recognized like this by my peers is incredibly humbling. I love what I do, and I truly love being part of the team at Gadsden Regional. My co-workers and the staff of this hospital are like a second family to me.”
In addition to receiving the national Nursing Excellence Award and recognition gift, Harris received a cash award.
