Each year, volunteers and corporate partners, such as Alabama Power, the City of Gadsden and the Etowah County Sheriff's Office, fan out to collect trash from the Coosa River. Volunteers over the years have ranged from 2 years old to in their eighties, Dover said. But the drive began when a local resident grew concerned about the amount of trash choking the river's waters.
