Calvin Chappelle: “Old soldiers never die...They just fade away” is often quoted...but not at Alabama’s Confederate Memorial Park. In 1964, Confederate Memorial Park was established in Chilton County on the site of the state-run Confederate Soldiers' Home, which operated from 1902 to 1939 as the state's only care facility and residence for aging veterans of the Confederate Army, their wives, and widows. The park is home to the site of the original facility, historic structures, a museum, and two Soldiers' Home cemeteries. Join us as the site director, Calvin Chappelle explores the history of the Alabama Confederate Memorial Park.
