Commemorating the day in 1865 when slaves in Texas learned of the Emancipation Proclamation, two-and-a-half years after the fact.
Festivities officially kick off at noon with a parade on Tuscaloosa Avenue, beginning on the east side at the Goodyear Warehouse and ending at the Carver Community Center.
Music and entertainment starts at 1:00 PM, with gospel, hip-hop and R&B. The Spiritual-Aires, the Joyful-Aires and Loretta Jones are all scheduled to perform. There will also be vendors including: jewelry, craft, clothing and food.
